What is Children’s Mental Health Week? 

A Children’s mental health charity called Place2Be has set up Children’s Mental Health Week 2021. Its aim is to highlight the importance of mental health within children and young people. 

When does Children’s Mental Health Week take place? 

This year, in 2021, Children’s Mental Health Week will take place from February 1st to February 7th. Schools, youth groups, various organisations and individuals across the UK will be taking part in Children’s Mental Health Week 2021.

What is the theme of the week? 

The theme of Children’s Mental Health Week this year is ‘Express Yourself’. The aim is to encourage children and young people to express themselves in a variety of ways. For example, expressing yourself can be about sharing your feelings, thoughts and ideas through creativity. It could be through a piece of artwork or writing, or through a performance such as dance or drama. Anything really as long as it is fun and you like it!

An important part of this theme is that expressing yourself doesn’t mean that you’re the best at something. It’s all about finding a way to show other people who you are and how you feel. It’s about showing how you see the world and finding a way to ‘express yourself’ which feels good to you. Expressing yourself in a way that’s unique to you is a great way to improve mental wellbeing.

There are lots of ways to Express yourself….why don’t you get creative and express your feelings, thoughts and ideas, through poetry, song, dance, or WHATEVER!

Exercise is also a great way to have fun while Expressing Yourself and exercise can really help with your mental wellbeing. But it doesn’t have to be boring, like just running on the spot or doing push ups…why not do your exercise creatively…just like in the video below from Sport Works! You can even go further and Express Yourself by wearing funny clothes or odd socks, just like mine!

There are lots of ways you can Express Yourself, here are a couple of examples from experts and familiar faces across acting, art, content creation, dance and writing. 

Well, this week its all about Expressing Yourself, try to be creative, be yourself…you are creative and what you like and do is important.

But, there is no reason why you don’t need to continue Expressing Yourself after this special week is over, imagine a world where people are frightened to Express Themselves…there would be no art, no dance, no music, no poetry, no films, no TV…..take care people!
