Girls have more white matter in the brain than boys…
White matter – this is the networking grid that connects the grey matter and other processing centres with one another.
Grey matter – these areas of the brain are localised.
Boys brains make use of more than 7 times more grey matter while girls use more than 10 times more white matter. What does this mean?
White mater – This deep brain-processing difference is probably one reason you may have noticed that girls tend to move quickly from one activity to another. The grey- white matter difference in their brains may explain why, in adulthood, women are great multi-taskers, while men can excel in high task-focused projects.
Grey matter – These are action and information processing centres in specific areas of the brain. This can seem like a kind of tunnel vision when they are doing something. Once they are deeply engaged in a task or game, them might not have much sensitivity to other people or their surroundings. Have you noticed this? When they are engrossed in something they don’t want to stop when you tell them it is time to go out, tidy up, have tea?
See tomorrow’s post for the structural differences between girls and boys brains…..
