Last December was busy as usual with your votes for Teacher of the Month and our winner was Mrs Patterson, she’s a teaching assistant at Hadrian Park Primary School.

Did you always know that you wanted to work with children?
No, becoming a TA was a welcome career change for me after I was blessed with my own children.

What’s the most rewarding thing about being a teaching assistant?
Getting to know the unique personalities of all the lovely children.

What’s the most challenging thing about being a teaching assistant?
Juggling! But I have become an expert at it!

What’s your favourite subject?
Literacy, I love it when the children use their own ideas to create stories using new inventive vocabulary.

What makes a good teacher?
Someone who cares as much for each individual child’s wellbeing as much as they do for their education.

Who was your favourite teacher when you were at school and why?
My Business Studies teacher, as she believed I would succeed even though I was not particularly academic.

Did you enjoy school?
Yes I am thankful for the opportunities and friendships it gave me.

Whilst you have undoubtedly inspired many children, who inspires you?
Walt Disney – it all started with a mouse!

For any young people reading this, why should they consider a career in teaching?
You will never be bored, somebody will make you laugh everyday, you may be exhausted but everything you do will make a difference.

Any thing else that you would like our visitors to know?
I genuinely love my role and all of the gorgeous children I work with.
